When the weather outside is frightful and the kids are saying the old chestnut “I’m bored”, luckily, there are fun winter activities to keep you and your kin busy indoors when you can’t go into the great outdoors.
As the days now are short and the mornings are cold and dark, it can be a lot less tempting to leave the house. Blankets, pyjama days and hot chocolate suddenly become a lot more desirable. However, after a while when the kids get restless, it’s great to have some activities up your sleeve!
Go wild, use your imagination and most importantly, have loads of fun!
Board games
Board games are great fun for the whole family and provide a fun and engaging way to get their little brains active. From solving murder mysteries to buying million-pound London properties, they’re a great way to switch off from technology, challenge young minds and create hours indoor fun.
Technology
The online world is an amazing way to bring the outdoors indoors and go on a trip around the world from your living room!
You could open up Google Street View and go for a virtual walk around London, New York or Paris. You could take a virtual tour of the Great Wall of China, one of the seven wonders of the world and even visit the Yellowstone National Park’s top attractions!
Scavenger hunt
A good old-fashioned scavenger hunt is always fun, and can provide hours of entertainment for your little one. Thinking up the riddles for your game is half the fun and so is deciding what clues and hiding spots you want to use. It can be educational, fun and will get your kids moving around the house to keep them active.
Ready, steady, cook
There’s no better way to learn how to cook than to simply get your apron on, open the cupboard doors and just have a go. To make it even more exciting for the little ones you could have a bake-off competition. Prepare for a big mess, lots of laughs and sort out a prize for the winner!
Get crafty
With a few inexpensive craft supplies, you could have endless fun with crafty activities at home, perfect for any ages. From making Christmas decorations, cards to send to the family or winter nature pictures, you’ll be able to help spark their imagination and express themselves creatively.
Movie night
Why not bring the cinema to your living room and create the ultimate movie night! Set up your room like a cinema for your family including chairs, blankets and stuffed animals to fill up your movie theatre for the best experience.
You could even create some paper cinema tickets and even set up a snack bar on your table with popcorn, lollies or even veggies and dips. It’ll be a huge hit with the kids!
We hope these ideas have given you some inspiration for things to do on the run up to Christmas and for the long winter ahead!
