Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. The nation will mark her 70 years of service with a host of big events and street parties over the bank holiday weekend from June 2 to 5. Here is some of the events local to The Country Mouse!
1. Wednesday June 1 - Goring
There will be a royal teddy bears' picnic at St Mary's Church Hall and gardens from 2.30pm to 4pm. Guests are invited to take a picnic and dress their teddies in regal clothes, drinks provided.
2. Thursday June 2 - Arundel
The town crier will deliver a proclamation in the Town Square on Thursday, June 2, at 2pm, followed by a procession and Service of Thanksgiving led by the town’s churches.
3. Thursday June 2 - Arundel
Historic Hiorne Tower will be the site of the beacon lighting on Thursday, June 2, at 9.45pm. Residents can join local choirs and musicians from 8.30pm for a free musical celebration.
4. Thursday June 2 - East Preston
There is a Platinum Jubliee theme for this year's East Preston scarecrow competition and judging will begin on Thursday, June 2.
5. Wednesday June 1st - Saturday 4th June - Feering
Starting the celebrations on Thursday, 2 June, Ferring Country Centre will be offering pony rides, a Royal hunt, and its very own Queen for the day, including a showing of the 1945 movie ‘A Royal Night Out’ in the evening.
On Friday, 3 June, there will be a special village market held in the village hall, and a party on the green that will be organised by the council’s co-ordination committee. There will be live music from the past seven decades, a bar, and food.
On Saturday, 4 June, there will be a craft fair at the Glebelands Community Centre and arena events on the recreation ground, including a bouncy castle, a car show and Ferring’s Got Talent on the village green, with a children’s fashion show taking place earlier on in the day featuring music, a catwalk and prizes for the best outfits.
5. Saturday 4th June - Midhurst and Easebourne Platinum Celebration- Cowdray Ruins
Midhurst Town Council and Easebourne Parish Council have joined together to create a Platinum Jubilee celebration in front of Cowdray Ruins on Saturday 4th June 2022. Join the celebration between 12pm and 4pm for music, entertainment, stalls and the best of British food and drink to mark this momentous occasion in British history.
